I have published twenty-three character-driven books, and until recently, I've never completely stalled out on a story. I had to step away from it and look at it from a different perspective to figure out what had gone awry.
And guess what? It was one character. I hadn't taken the time to really explore her and find out what makes her tick, what her dreams are, her wishes, her greatest fears, etc. Once I took the time to sit with Darcy (the character) and discover all of those things, the story start moving again. Knowing our characters inside and out is so important in bringing these creations into living color for the readers.
What puzzled me was not realizing immediately what was wrong. But hey, we are never too old to learn! Now, the story is moving forward again and I will finish it! Lesson learned AGAIN!
