I had a scam last week, someone claiming to be Elizabeth Strout. Same thing, very flattering, wants to keep the conversation going, then bam! She wants me to call her publicist, who was also bogus, BTW. Just before that someone claiming to be an Executive Editor from St. Martin's Press contacted me. It was bogus but they had me going. Always check that the email addresses are correct, and never believe an email from Gmail or AOL.com, etc. Mine had a cleverly disguised email, stmartiinspress@vicki-lame.com. The real address would have been vickilame@stmartinspress.com. If it's too good to be true, it probably is!
